Hint Use the concept of work done and displacement to solve this question .Also use conservation of energy ,to solve this question . According to Law of conservation of energy , energy can neither be created nor be destroyed . It can only be transferred from one form to another form.
Complete step by step answer
Energy =The capacity of an object to do work is called its energy.
Work = The energy transferred to or from an object via the application of force along a displacement.
Force =The velocity of an object of mass m can be changed by the application of force.
The work done can be given by the formula
\[W = \vec F.\vec s\]
Where F is the applied force and s is the displacement covered.
In the question it is given that the we are pushing the rock with all our might , but the rock does not move , and we can see that the displacement s of the rock will be zero
Thus , $s = 0$
Putting this value of s in the above formula for W , we get that the work done will be zero.
Thus , $W = F \times 0$
$W = 0$
Thus since work done is zero ,the energy transferred to the rock is also zero.
But still, since we are applying energy to the wall , it gets transferred somewhere else.
Since according to the Law of conservation of energy , energy can neither be created nor be destroyed . It can only be transferred from one form to another form .
So the energy spent by us which is the muscular energy is transferred as heat energy . This heat energy is used to heat up our body .
Thus after pushing the rock , the person gets exhausted and becomes tired.
Note
It must be remembered that in science you are not doing any work , if there is no displacement with the application of force. So even if you are spending a lot of energy you are not doing any work in the terms of science.
