Ram Ganesh Gadkari (May 26, 1885 - January 23, 1919) was a Marathi poet, a humorous writer, performer and an artist from Maharashtra, India. Ram Ganesh Gadkari was one of the finest writers in the new age transformation in Marathi literature. He wrote poetry with the official pen name Govindagraj. He also wrote many humorous articles under the pen name Balakram. He wrote all his plays under his legal name only.
Ekach Pyala is a Marathi play written by Ram Ganesh Gadkari .He wrote a play on the subject of alcohol and its ill effects on the body. The play was written around 1917. The Gandharva Natak Mandali first performed it on February 20 in the same year. It was first performed in Baroda by Balwant Sangeet Mandali on 6 February. Gadkari completed his third play 'Ekach Pyala' in November 1917, However, the play came to the stage of 'Gandharva Natak Mandali' ten to eleven months after Gadkari's death. C. Gurjar later wrote the verses of the play. Sindhu Balgandharva was to be performed in this play, so there was no dispute that the play was to be performed as per the customs of the time given. The story of 'Ekcha Pyala', is the tragedy of Sudhakar and his wife Sindhu, who lost everything along with their lawyer due to alcohol intoxication. Sudhakar kills his son at one point of story. Later, Sindhu also dies and Sudhakar commits suicide and story ends.
